Today in Philippine History

June 9, 1945 - The first time the Philippine Commonwealth Congress meet since the November 1941 polls. 

War came suddenly to the Philippines, when Japan attacked the Philippines without warning Afetr the NOvember polls. Thus, the commenwealth government was interrupted. The said government lead by Manuel L. Quezon and Sergio S. Osmeña went to exile in the United States. Quezon died of Tuberculosis while in exile and Osmeña assumed the presidency. After the liberation from the Japanese forces, the commonwealth government was restored. And on june 09, 1945, the commonwealth congress convened for the first time. 

On June 9, 1975, the Republic of the Phillipines and the People's Republic of China signed a Joint Communique normalizing the diplomatic relations between the two countries. In relation, Presidential Proclamation No. 148 issued on January 22, 2002, declared June 9 of every year as Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day.

On the same day of 1919, the Philippine Womens University opened its first classes with an intial enrollment count of 190 students.
